Onlooker Play

During onlooker play, students are observing nature in which the child chooses to observe at play. Many children will often ask questions to their classmates, but they do not want to play. Children learn but watching other children at play.

Cooperative play children will often plan how their play will go. Children will make their own scenerios when they are playing and they will role play during cooperative play. Children will often decide what parts they want their friends to build if they are building blocks or if they are playing cars. Children can use props such as blocks to pretend they are protecting their enemies. This kind of play develops overtime and each stage will offer more benefits and ways of thinking for children.

Constructive Play

Based on the textbook, constructive play is an organized form of play that is goal and product oriented. Children often use materials to create something. Constructive play usually happens in the classrooms during choice time and involves playing or constructing with three dimensional materials including blocks, play dough, and art materials. Constructive play serves to focus children's minds to invent and discover new possibilities.

What I learned from the book

Based on the information I have learned through the semester, I have gained more confidence in being aware of the different types of play and what they mean. This book helped me understand words/phrases I did not know much about. play gives children what they need now, which will help them develop into the kinds of people who can handle what comes next. This ties in with my philosophy because play-based learning approach is essential for children to learn and grow.
