Philosophy

As an educator, I believe that all children have a unique personality and each child learns in a different learning style. Children deserve to be treated equally and to be accepted while learning in school. I believe that children tend to work better in an environment that is comfortable to their style of learning, so they are able to understand the material and succeed in school. I want my children to have a safe environment that they can come to when they are having an off day, and I want my classroom to be their second home. As an educator, I want my students to be able to talk to me whenever they need to and trust me.  Building relationships with my students will help me grow as an educator to understand how each child learns. Being able to watch my students grow is a pleasure, and it will teach me how to further my career in Early Childhood Education.

My philosophy in Early Childhood Education consists of the Play-Based Learning approach and the Multiple Intelligence Theory. These theories consist of a variety of open-ended learning activities designed to allow children to work at their own level. One of the theorists I have chosen is Lev Vygotsky, and his theory ties in with the Play-Based Learning. “If we really listen to children at play, we can hear the way they converse with themselves in order to make sense of the external world. Mimicking adults is often the most obvious way this process can be observed,” Lev Vygotsky introduced. There are many ways to thrive each and every day when working with children. Each child’s mind is developing even if they are just playing. I am grounded in the Play-Based Learning theory, and I believe children will strive and learn more if this approach is used in my classroom.  With that being said, each child plays differently; therefore, they learn differently through different play.
